Trading Baseball Cards for Watches

I was a huge fan of baseball cards growing up.  A couple of times each month I would beg my parents to drive me to a baseball card show at a nearby hotel.  I remember asking them – “How far is Waltham?  How about Braintree?  What about Taunton?”  If the location of the card show was within 30 minutes, I was usually in luck.  My parents would drive me to the show and wait in the lobby as I wandered around trying to get rich buying, selling, and trading baseball cards.  Well, I never got rich.  However, I still have some great cards.

While I still like baseball cards, I would rather trade them for watches.  And you know what? That’s exactly what I’m going to try to do starting today.  Here are the cards I will attempt to turn into a watch.

Here’s how it will work:

1. I will send my cards to a professional grading company.  They will assign a condition to each card and seal it in a plastic case.  A “1″ means that the card is in terrible condition and worth very little.  A “10″ means that the card is perfect (or “mint”) and could be worth a lot of money.

2. When I get my graded cards back I will put them up for sale on ebay (the great thing about the grading company is that they grade the card and put it in a sealed case, so my buyers will know exactly what they’re getting – unfortunately the same isn’t always true for watches sold on ebay).

3. I will take the proceeds from the cards and buy the best watch possible.  I definitely won’t be able to afford an Audemars Piguet, Rolex, or Hublot.  If I get lucky, I might be able to afford an Oris or Tag Heuer.  Should be an interesting process!

I will keep you posted and things progress.  Maybe a couple of you will bid on the cards to help me out!
