LeBron Rocks an Audemars Piguet

Everyone’s blogging about LeBron James today, right?  Cleveland fans are writing about how angry and depressed they are…Miami fans are writing about the parties they plan to throw after winning the championship…and I’m writing about LeBron’s watch.

For those of you who missed it, LeBron commissioned a one hour special to tell the world where he is going to play basketball for the next several years.  An hour?  Yep.  An hour.  Say it with me – “Miami”.  How long did that take?  It took me an hour.  You?

Everyone who lives outside of the Miami area code is upset with LeBron.  I get it.  But give the guy a break.  He’s a good guy.  Yes, he organized an hour long show to share something that could have taken less than a second, but I think he had good intentions.  Don’t forget – all of the proceeds from last night’s show were donated to Boys and Girls Clubs.  And you could tell that it was hard for him to share his intentions to move to Miami.  Cleveland has a piece of his heart. But he wants to win championships and he didn’t see that happening in Cleveland.  Could he have handled it better?  Of course.  But give the guy a break.

LeBron also answered another burning question that everyone was asking leading up to the 60-minute special – What kind of watch is LeBron going to wear when he makes the announcement?  (Okay, I was probably the only person asking that question)

We got our answer: Audemars Piguet.  I guess this shouldn’t surprise too many people since I blogged about LeBron wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore a few weeks ago (click here).  Who said he isn’t loyal?

So apparently I’m not the only one blogging about this! Another site had the following to say (and don’t worry, I already told them that LeBron wasn’t traded):

“Last night, during a nationally televised press conference for NBA super star LeBron James to announce where he would be playing next year, he was wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore wristwatch. Specifically the Royal Oak Offshore Volcano Limited Edition. Not only did he announce one of the most blockbuster trade deals in NBA history, with his decision to go to Miami (LeBron James, Dwanye Wade and Chris Bosh will all play on the same team), but he did so in style with one of the very best brands in the world of haute horology on his wrist, Audemars Piguet.”

Just heard back from the other site – they made the update – and the person who responded to me seemed very nice.

Glad I’m not the only watch geek out there.
