Meet the Cartier Tank Anglaise.
Not only is the Tank Anglaise destined to be another big hit for Cartier in the luxury watch market- it is also an important piece in the brand’s history. The Tank Anglaise it will house Cartier’s very first, in-house made movement. (Cartier watches previously housed movements manufactured by the Swatch Group, prior to supply cuts made in early 2012 that hurt many luxury watchmakers- to learn more, read the NY Times article here)
The Anglaise retains the iconic, original elements of the Tank design, but with a more sleek and modernized approach- the Tank Francaise will strike a chord with conservative traditionalists and contemporary fashionistas alike.
It’s a design so seamless, so representative of the brand’s past, present and future- it has us wondering, could the Tank Anglaise actually be Cartier’s most perfect watch to date?
A close friend recently sent us a link to the picture above – it appeared on a blog called “How to Talk to Girls at Parties.” Although he was appalled by the picture, he said that wearing a watch over your shirt cuff is becoming a hot trend among certain circles. What? Really? Why? Who would do this?

1. Blake Lively – Not only is she Chanel designer, Karl Lagerfeld’s muse, but Blake Lively is a true fashion icon- and she’s only 24. We’d love to see the Gossip Girl starlet wearing the Chanel J12 Chromatic- it’s sleek, chic, sexy and the cutting-edge of fashion, just like Blake.
2. Kate Middleton – The Duchess of Cambridge is the epitome of classic elegance. Hubby- Prince William- is already a watch-fan (we’ve spotted him wearing an Omega Seamaster), and we think its about time Kate joined the ranks with her own luxury timepiece. We think the timeless & regal Cartier Tank Francaise would be a perfect choice.
3. Carrie Underwood - Carrie Underwood turned us to country converts with her killer voice, bubbly personality, and flawless appearance. This girly girl loves some sparkle on the red carpet- which is why we think this diamond-studded Tag Heuer Formula 1 would be a perfect fit for her!
4. Olivia Wilde – Olivia Wilde is one of those red-carpet paradoxes, appearing at once sexy and edgy, yet sophisticated. The former House star certainly knows how to render us speechless- with one exception- we think Wilde needs a men’s style Gold Rolex (like this awesome Rolex Daytona) to top off her look. Now, that would be total perfection.

You also know that one of our favorite trends is women wearing oversized watches.
In 2010 we praised Jennifer Aniston. What’s not to love – she’s talented, attractive, likeable, and has a great collection of oversized watches.
In 2011 Tamara Ecclestone and Sofia Vergara were all over eRelyx. Both women love oversized watches (including our absolute favorite, the Cartier Ballon Bleu).
Well, it’s 2012. Who will step up to be our favorite oversized watch-wearing celebrity? While it’s still early, we have a front-runner: Lilly Ghalichi.

You heard us. Lilly Ghalichi. Okay, so by most standards, she’s not a true celebrity. But why not? Paris Hilton is a celebrity. Kim Kardashian is a celebrity. Heck, Snooki is a celebrity. Admittedly, we stumbled on Lilly as we were browsing PR Photos to find other celebrities wearing watches. But what is stopping Lilly from becoming a celeb? Not much. She’s easy on the eyes – you can be the judge below. She’s smart – she’s a licensed attorney in California!! She’s a budding fashion entrepreneur – her company, Femme Noir Swimgerie, recently merged with Have Faith Swimwear and the joint company will re-launch early this year. She’s not afraid of the spotlight – every room in her house has red carpet (okay, we made that up). She knows the difference between then & than and your & you’re. And the key to becoming a celebrity – she loves amazing watches. In our ‘Twinterview” with Lilly, she claimed, “I love watches. They’re so sexy on men and women.” We couldn’t agree more!

How amazing is this custom hand-made eRelyx hooded sweatshirt? It was one of my gifts for Christmas last year. I think it’s safe to say that it will be near impossible to top that gift this year. Although please don’t let that stop anyone from trying.
I was thinking – why should I be the only one to have such a masterpiece? Everyone should have the opportunity to own one. Here’s the problem: assuming we pay the original creator a reasonable hourly wage, the sweatshirts will cost about $3,500 each. But it’s super-exclusive. Any takers?

2. On a recent trip to NYC I tried my very first Macarons & I’m completely obsessed. Since I doubt a plane ticket to Paris is in my future, I’m asking for the next best thing- a box of treats from Boston’s best- Flour Bakery.
3.This one’s been on the wish list for the last 10 Christmases. A vintage Chanel handbag in the brand’s most iconic style. Swoon.
4. I recently had a “candle-epiphany”- where I finally realized the purpose, and power, of a scented candle- It kills odor like no air freshener can, and creates an incredible ambiance. These Diptyque candles are so decadent, so transformative- they’ve become one of those little luxuries I can’t help craving.
5. I’ve been dying to get my hands on some of these stackable jewel-tone rings that are so popular lately- Individually or piled on, these rings from The Julie Collection, are absolutely to die for.
6. Since I was about 16- its become a sort of Christmas-gift-tradition to receive an overpriced, totally unnecessary and utterly beautiful coffee table book from my parents. This year’s choice? 100 Years of Fashion Illustration- a perfect amalgam of (all my favorite subjects!) Art, Fashion & History.
7. Last, but definitely not least, what’s topping my list this year? Well…what else but a gorgeous luxury watch, of course! I love everything about this pre-owned Rolex Datejust-
-from the gold case to the sumptuous brown leather strap to the over-sized masculine look. Not only is this piece a great investment (Rolex watches tend to appreciate in value, especially when there is gold involved, and buying pre-owned saves you a bundle to start!), but I love that it’s a total departure from my every-day classic- the Cartier Tank Francaise.
I cant help but adore this watch’s ability to feel both laid-back as well as luxe, and transition from casual-wear to a statement making piece. Its the “luxury vintage” vibe of this Rolex that really has me hoping I made Santa’s ‘Nice List’ this year!
Bethenny Frankel is just one of the few Reality stars to make The Hollywood Reporter’s Top 100 Women in Entertainment list this year, and at this morning’s honorary breakfast, we spotted Frankel wearing her trusted Cartier Ballon Bleu.
So, in a moment of retrospection- we dug back through the eRelyx blog and revisited some on the other famous Housewives of Bravo TV who, like Bethenny, know a thing or two about luxury watches.
