My Real-Life Christmas List:

2. On a recent trip to NYC I tried my very first Macarons & I’m completely obsessed. Since I doubt a plane ticket to Paris is in my future, I’m asking for the next best thing- a box of treats from Boston’s best- Flour Bakery.

3.This one’s been on the wish list for the last 10 Christmases. A vintage Chanel handbag in the brand’s most iconic style. Swoon.

4. I recently had a “candle-epiphany”- where I finally realized the purpose, and power, of a scented candle- It kills odor like no air freshener can, and creates an incredible ambiance. These Diptyque candles are so decadent, so transformative- they’ve become one of those little luxuries I can’t help craving.

5. I’ve been dying to get my hands on some of these stackable jewel-tone rings that are so popular lately- Individually or piled on, these rings from The Julie Collection, are absolutely to die for.

6. Since I was about 16- its become a sort of Christmas-gift-tradition to receive an overpriced, totally unnecessary and utterly beautiful coffee table book from my parents. This year’s choice? 100 Years of Fashion Illustration- a perfect amalgam of (all my favorite subjects!) Art, Fashion & History.

7. Last, but definitely not least, what’s topping my list this year? Well…what else but a gorgeous luxury watch, of course! I love everything about this pre-owned Rolex Datejust-

-from the gold case to the sumptuous brown leather strap to the over-sized masculine look. Not only is this piece a great investment (Rolex watches tend to appreciate in value, especially when there is gold involved, and buying pre-owned saves you a bundle to start!), but I love that it’s a total departure from my every-day classic- the Cartier Tank Francaise.

I cant help but adore this watch’s ability to feel both laid-back as well as luxe, and transition from casual-wear to a statement making piece. Its the “luxury vintage” vibe of this Rolex that really has me hoping I made Santa’s ‘Nice List’ this year!

Get to Know Your Watch Retailer

We’ve said it before – Buy the retailer first and the watch second. When you buy an expensive watch online, you want to make sure that you get what you pay for. You want to know that the watch is going to arrive as describe…or even arrive at all.

We’ve reported on a couple of suspicious sites in the past – read about watch scams here.

Well, another suspicious site has popped up. While searching for a Bell & Ross BR03-92, we noticed one site with an amazing price. What’s the old saying? If it seems too good to be true…

$500 less for a brand new Bell & Ross BR03-92? That sounds pretty darn good. So, I check out the site.

Where have we seen that before? Oh, right. Here: CSI Watches. And Here. Remember these sites:

Look familiar? Here’s what we know about previous sites that have looked like this – you try to order the watch online with your credit card, they tell you that they can’t process your credit card and ask you to send the money via Western Union. Hopefully people have positive experiences with finewatchesonsale.com, but buyer beware.

WSOP Bracelet Should be a Watch

The 2011 World Series of Poker (WSOP) champion was crowned last night in Las Vegas. The winner, German Pius Heinz, took home a whopping $8.72MM…and a sweet diamond studded bracelet.

I understand that winning a bracelet is a tradition, but how many men wear bracelets these days? I don’t know the answer to that, but I know the number is lower than the number of men who wear watches. So why not give away a WSOP watch? Maybe a nice Rolex. Or a Patek Philippe. After all, a bracelet is just a watch that doesn’t tell time, right?

An eRelyx Love Story

At eRelyx, we’ve made it our top priority to provide the highest level of customer service. We want our customers to be happy. If they’re happy, we’re happy.

Recently, we helped a customer purchase his dream Rolex through eRelyx. When he received the watch, he thought it looked a bit too small on his wrist. When he shared the news with us, we told him that we would gladly accept a return and issue a full refund. The customer carefully packaged up the watch and sent it back in its original condition. Three days after the return transaction was completed, we received this hand-written heart-felt note from him.

We were so touched by the gesture that we had to share it with the world. While it’s completely unnecessary to send a note such as this, we love knowing that we’ve made a customer happy.

Rumors of More Price Increases for Cartier and Panerai

When it comes to luxury watches, price increases seem to be a fact of life. It’s not surprising to hear rumors that Cartier and Panerai are considering price hikes in the near future. What is surprising is that they’ve already raised prices this year – Cartier’s prices were just increased in July!

Now these are still just rumors, but we’ve heard them from multiple credible sources.

Swatch Dumps Tiffany

“I think we’re alone now. There doesn’t seem to be anyone around.”

When it comes to watches, that’s what the Tiffany executives will be singing for the foreseeable future.

Back in 2007, luxury jeweler Tiffany entered into a joint agreement with Swatch Group. According to the Swatch Group website, the agreement was a “strategic alliance to further the development, production and worldwide distribution of Tiffany & Co. brand watches. Under the agreement, the new watch company, known as Tiffany Watch Co. Ltd and wholly owned by Swatch Group, will design and manufacture in Switzerland a complete range of high-end luxury watches.”

In other words, Swatch makes watches for Tiffany. Swatch pays Tiffany royalties for the use of the brand. Unfortunately, the relationship appears to be over. According to the Wall Street Journal, “The world’s largest watchmaker said the long-term partnership was being terminated following Tiffany & Co.’s systematic efforts to block and delay development of the business.”

Of course, Tiffany had a few parting shots: “Despite assurances to contrary made in 2007, Swatch has failed to provide appropriate distribution for Tiffany & Co. brand watches, with the result that our current business forecasts do not include any meaningful increase in watch sales or royalty income.”

The relationship was set to last 20 years with an option for another 10.

A couple of interesting questions to ask:

1. Will any of the Swatch-made Tiffany watches become collectors’ items?

2. Are there good examples of jewelers successfully entering the watch world? There are probably a few success stories, however, my feeling is that watches tend to be a bit more male-centric, making it difficult for jewelers to make a huge splash.

Tiffany is now single. It will be interesting to see if any new kids on the watch block will be interested in courting her.
