Omega Watch – I’ll Pay With US Dollars

Omega Seamaster Professional on eRelyx

I was doing a bit of online research on Omega watches over the weekend.  I learned two things:

1. Our Omega Seamaster Professional is priced VERY competitively.  Tough to find that watch in stock for under $2800.

2. The US Dollar is at an all-time high (okay, that isn’t true, but check out this screen capture for another watch site):

If someone would like to pay us in Euros for this watch, we would gladly accept half of what our competitors are asking.  A steal at just under 700 billion Euros.  Okay, give us 500 billion and you’ve got a deal.  Fine.  One billion Euros.  But not a Euro less.

“Cocktails for a Cause”

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Last night the eRelyx team and upwards of 100 young professionals in the Boston metro area came out to the posh Liberty Hotel for “Cocktails for a Cause” hosted by the Boston chapter of GOTO (Giving Opportunities to Others).

GOTO is a charitable organization that seeks to enrich the lives of promising, underprivileged middle school students by immersing them in art and music. GOTO hosts several of events, like Cocktails for a Cause, throughout the year to raise money, encourage philanthropic awareness and enable networking amongst Boston’s young professionals.

As a part of the GOTO event last evening, eRelyx hosted a table where party-goers were able to view an amazing display of some of our favorite watches, (as well as try them on!), and speak directly with eRelyx Founder & CEO, Greg Pope. Attendees also beat the heat (a whopping 94 degrees!) by enjoying refreshing cocktails (like the delicious watermelon margaritas) and live music from local Reggae artist, Cubby Love.

All in all, it was a hugely successful evening, and the eRelyx team had an amazing time supporting this great cause! A special thanks to GOTO for inviting us & helping to spread the word about eRelyx!

Watches Have Always Been Cool

Monday, July 18th, 2011

The New York Times recently wrote an article declaring that watches have been “rediscovered by the cellphone generation” (Read the full article here).  While it’s great to see that watches are getting attention in mainstream press, it bothers me when people claim that watches will be replaced by electronic devices like cell phones.  While that may be the case for digital Timex and Casio watches, I don’t think the claim holds true for luxury watches.  Why?  Well, you don’t buy a $5000 watch to tell time.  Sure, it’s nice that your Rolex or Omega watch will tell time, but you bought it because of how it makes you feel.  It gives you confidence.  It sets you apart from your peers.  Its provides a glimpse of your personality.  It’s a piece of art.

Why do bracelets exist?  See where I’m going with this?  If people bought bracelets simply for functionality…well, they would have never been invented.  (Probably the case with all jewelery, save wedding rings)

BTW – shouldn’t we ditch ties before we even think about ditching watches?  I’d much rather wear this Omega than a tie.  Wouldn’t you?

2011 ESPY Awards

Friday, July 15th, 2011

We know that athletes LOVE watches.  However, we usually see them in uniforms.  And unless you’re Rafael Nadal or Phil Mickelson, those uniforms don’t typically include expensive luxury watches.

So, the best chance to spot athletes in their best get-ups and luxury watches is at the ESPY Awards, held every year in California.  Check out a few of the athletes looking their best – complete with Rolex and other custom watches.  We threw in a few other celebrities at the end that are looking good, even without watches.  Hopefully they complete their looks with a nice watch next year!  (Click on the thumbnails for larger images)

Dating Your Rolex Using the Serial Number

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

Looking to date your Rolex? Don’t have the original paperwork? Not to worry.

You can use the serial number to determine the approximate age of the watch. For older models, the serial number is located on the side of the case between the shoulders of the watch (you must removed the bracelet/strap to see it). For the newer models it’s even easier – the serial number is underneath the crystal on the inner ring of the case.

Once you have the number, just match it up as closely as possible to the chart below – the date is to the right.
