Is This Really the Same Tag Heuer Watch?

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

I would never say that I treat my watches with “kid gloves.”  My watches are meant to be worn.  My watches are also meant to be seen.  Therefore, if I’m wearing long sleeves, they’re rolled up.  As a result, my watch bands get pretty scratched up from all of the banging and rubbing on my desk (still talking about watches).

The scratches on the watch aren’t really a big deal, but they’re definitely annoying.  We’re here to help.

Check out the pictures of my Tag Heuer Link – purchased in 2004 and worn extensively.  These are before and after pictures.  Who wants to know how I did it?  Stay tuned.  (And please click on the picture to zoom in – the pictures don’t even do it justice!)

Stay tuned – I’ll share details in a blog later this week!

What Your Watch Says About You: Part IV

Panerai Luminor Marina

-Celebrities: We vote Adrien Grenier and David Beckham as the ideal picks for Panerai men. They aren’t your standard classic Hollywood pretty-boys-next-door. They both appreciate the finer things in life, gravitating towards a tailored, chic look while maintaining a little bit of edge and intrigue. They are the essence of an expensive, sleek, contemporary and stand-out watch like Panerai. Oh, and did i mention? The three together pretty much define the word HOT.

-Outerwear: A leather motorcycle jacket from the prestigious and established European brand, Belstaff. Reputable, expensive, but slightly under-the-radar, makes Belstaff, like Panerai, a hot contemporary luxury brand thats favored by a sleek, hip, younger crowd.

-Designer: John Varvatos captures the essence of Panerai in his apparel, beauty and shoe design. Varvatos makes his name by infusing the luxury, upscale, menswear market with a little rock & roll edge. The tailored-but-messy, lower-east-side meets madison avenue, is a unique approach to fashion that is youthful, cool and reflective of a Panerai Luminor.

-Vacation Destination: Prague is the choice spot for the Panerai hipster. Slightly off the beaten path, Bohemia is all the rage in tourism these days. History, culture and vibrant nightlife make this Eastern Europe the ideal spot for a Panerai guy’s getaway.

-Car: Range Rover Sport in black or silver, with all the upgrades. Naturally.

-Gadgets: He was the first to get on board with the iPad. The Panerai guy loves to be on the cutting edge of fashion and technology, always having to have the latest, coolest toys.

-Music: A little alternative, but always excellent, quality artists. Vampire Weekend and the latest album from Kid Cudi are on his current “most played” list.

-Favorite Store: Barneys New York. Here he can find all his favorite upscale designer brands. Its contemporary luxury without being stuffy.

So, are you a Panerai?

If you said yes, you are a little alternative, hip, cool, sleek, edgy, young, trendy, contemporary, and have excellent taste.

Which is why we picked Victoria Beckham along with Angelina Jolie and Kim Kardashian as our celebs that we feel encompass the sexy vibe of our black Chanel J12.

-Outerwear: Dolce & Gabanna leather jacket in black with a slim and sexy cut. D&G designs represent the quintessential femme-fatale, just like the J12.

-Sunnies: Tom Ford Black Sunglasses. Seductive, contemporary and so-hot-right-now.

-Handbag: Botkier. Like our Chanel J12 the Botkier “Trigger” bag is known without being obvious and conveys a little edge despite its luxury designer status.

Splurge vs. Save

Bell & Ross BR-0392 – $2,190 vs. Panerai Luminor – $4,950

The Panerai Luminor vs. The Bell & Ross BR-0392

We chose the Panerai Luminor to pair with our newest addition to the eRelyx inventory, a Bell & Ross BR-0392 for today’s edition of Splurge vs. Save.

The Splurge being our Panerai- became the official watch of the Royal Italian Navy in the 1930s and is known for its large very rounded face. Our save- the Bell & Ross- differs slightly from the Panerai as the watch of sky, rather than sea- the official timekeeper of the Air Force- and notable for its distinct, large, square face. Regardless, both brands share a sporty, oversized style and black and silver color scheme that make them truly cutting edge. This is a watch for the style savvy guy who wants to make a statement, and stand out in a sea of Rolexes.

Rihanna Loves Rolex

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

It’s been a tough stretch for the young Hollywood power couples.  In the past few days the following couples have called it quits: Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, Scarlett Johannson and Ryan Reynolds, and Matt Kemp and Rihanna.  No doubt that all six will find love again soon – they’re all young, talented, and attractive.  They’re sure to have plenty of suitors.

In the meantime, Rihanna can depend on another one of her loves – Rolex.  Her watch is sure to be by her side. Check her out taking in a basketball game with (now) ex, Matt Kemp.  Beautiful.

WYWSAY: Rolex Submariner

Friday, December 17th, 2010

“Part Two” of our What Your Watch Says About You series-

Rolex Submariner

-Celebrities: As one of the best-selling watches of all time, we naturally associate the Rolex Submariner with the number one best-selling actor- Leonardo DiCaprio. We also like Jake Gyllenhaal for his charm, clean-cut good-looks and his diverse dating record only serves to support our comparison- like a Rolex, he is loved by old and young alike (Reese Witherspoon-35, T.Swift-21)

-Outerwear: The Rolex Submariner, like a Barbour coat, is both rugged and stylish, functional and fashionable, and both are well-established, dependable brands.

-Shoes: Tods leather driving loafers. Dependable and basic, just like a Rolex.

-Vacation Destination: Nantucket, Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard- where the New England set go to summer. The preppy vibe matches well with the classic nature of a Rolex Submariner.

-Car: The BMW 3 series. Its the luxury car everyone recognizes and loves. What else can we say? It just fits.

-Favorite Stores: The Rolex Submariner man likes his clothes to be high quality classics with a great fit and always in style. Brooks Brothers and Saks are the go-tos for the submariner man.

-Cocktail: A Manhattan- for its ability to be at once, masculine and elegant.

-Reading Material: The Rolex Submariner man and the GQ man are one and the same, (and he has the yearly subscription to prove it). On his bookshelf- you’ll find popular reads from contemporary favorites like Tom Clancy, John Grisham, and Dan Brown.

So, are you a Rolex Submariner?

If the answer is Yes, then you are classic, popular, dependable, widely recognized and admired, reliable, rugged, upscale, stylish and truly timeless.

If this is the watch for you- check out eRelyx’s impressive collection of Rolex Submariners in stock now at www.erelyx.com or click on the pictures below.

What Your Watch Says About You: Cartier Tank

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

Welcome to “Part One” of our latest Blog series What Your Watch Says About You-

The Cartier Tank Watch.

- Celebrities: Jackie O was the original “Cartier Tank” woman. Today, we associate celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway, and Jen Aniston with the Tank watch. The quintessential woman-next-door, these celebs are loved by men and women of all ages. They are at once classically beautiful and traditional. They know what works for them in fashion and beauty and stick with it, earning them their spots on magazines’ “best dressed” lists year after year. Even though we know Jen is often seen wearing her gold oversized Rolex, her sophisticated, clean and elegant style fit to what the Cartier woman embodies.

- Outerwear: Burberry trench coat. The Burberry trench, like a Cartier Tank, is an absolute wardrobe essential for the classic woman.

- Shoes: A pair of classic Jimmy Choo black pumps and Chanel ballet flats. The woman who wears a Cartier Tank believes in luxury investment pieces- Chic black heels and practical Chanel flats are the only shoes she’ll ever need and will never go out of style.

- Sunnies: An oversized pair of black shades from Chloe or Oliver Peoples. Just like Jackie would wear.

- Handbag: We equate the Cartier Tank with a Hermes Birkin bag. Its sophisticated, elegant, high-class without being flashy. Like the Tank, the Birkin is the “one” bag every woman aspires to own and may be the only purse she ever needs. The Birkin’s design- understated, clean, squared-off lines- even mimic the physicality of a Cartier Tank.

- Vacation Destination: The Cartier Tank woman summers in the Hamptons, likely East Hampton, as it is the more established side of the island. While Paris would be an obvious vacation destination for a Cartier Tank lady, she enjoys the accessibility of the Hamptons, and being a part of this quintessentially chic summer scene.

- Reading Material: the current NYTimes best-seller, Vanity Fair and her much beloved copy of Great Gatsby.

- Cocktail: A cool Gin and Tonic with fresh lime. The drink is clean, crisp, fresh and sophisticated, just like the Cartier Tank.

So, are you a Cartier Tank?

If the answer is Yes, you are chic, understated, classic, beautiful and versatile. The Cartier is a timeless symbol of elegance and sophistication.

It’s Raining Scams

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

Like keeping up with the Kardashians, educating our readers on online luxury watch scams is a full-time job.

Earlier in the week we reported a case of identity theft.  Windsor Jewelry (www.windsorjewelry.com) of Indianapolis had its identity stolen by, well, Windsor Jewelry (www.windsorjewelries.com) of cyberspace.   The “too-good-to-be-true” prices were a dead giveaway.  Read the full blog here.

Well, crazy prices, “borrowed” pictures, and questionable payment forms clued us into a scam going on over at S-Watches (www.s-watches.com).

When we looked at a Rolex Submariner Anniversary in more detail, we thought the price was too good to be true.

$2,780 for that Rolex Submariner?!?!  Steal.  Well, sort of…depending on which side you’re on.

We also noticed that the images looked familiar.  In fact, there is a seller on eBay who seems to be selling the same watch for $5,895.  Notice that the date and time are the exact same on both watches.  Sure, sometimes Rolex will release stock photos of watches.  BUT, these aren’t stock photos.

Finally, S-watches only accepts wire transfers, personal checks…and probably cash if you want to mail it to them.

I think we spotted another scam.  What do you think?

Shame on you S-watches!

Splurge or Save, Round 1

Monday, December 13th, 2010

Wouldn’t it be great if everyone had an unlimited watch budget?  Of course it would, but we know that’s not the case.

Therefore, we’re going to start up a recurring blog titled, “Splurge or Save.”  We’ll compare two similar watches with two different price points.

We’re going to start with a true classic – the Rolex Submariner.  The Submariner was introduced to the public at a Swiss Watch Fair in 1954.  Today, it is one of the most recognizable and copied watches in the world.  The modern versions are 40mm, sport an automatic movement, and are waterproof to 300 meters.  The most popular model is the Submariner Date in stainless steel with a black dial.  Last year, a new one would run you about $6,000.  The most recent version is over $7,000.  Although a Rolex Submariner holds it value quite well, some watch enthusiasts might not be willing to part with that much money.

Enter Tag Heuer.  Although Tag Heuer does not carry the same level of prestige as Rolex, it is a well-known and well-respected luxury brand.  There are two models that one might consider when looking for a less expensive alternative to the Rolex Submariner.  Those models are the Aquaracer and the Link.  Both come in stainless steel with a black dial.  The Aquaracer is 42mm, sports an automatic movement, is waterproof to 300m, and has a retail price of ~$1,600.  The Link is 42mm, sports an automatic movement, an exhibition back, is waterproof to 200m, and has a retail price of ~$2,700.

Check out the images below (Submariner, Aquaracer, and Link).  On the date of publication, eRelyx has a Rolex Submariner Date and a Tag Heuer Link in stock.  Click on the images (left and right) for more information.
