Real. Holiday.

‘Twas the eve of Thanksgiving and all through the house plenty of creatures were stirring (not including a mouse).

The stockings were hung by the fireplace with care, in preparation that eRelyx soon would be there.

The lights were strung, glowing green, blue and red, while visions of watches danced through our heads.

The team with their cameras and the model in her dress, had just settled in for a long winter’s…PHOTO SHOOT.

We kicked off the holiday season early last week with a very-merry eRelyx Photo Shoot!

Our model enacted scenes from what would be the best Christmas ever- playing dress-up with some of our favorite watches like a Panerai, Chanel J12, and Rolex.

Check out the Gallery below with a sneak peak at some of the uncut shots and keep on the lookout for the finished ads as they run through out December!

Cyber Monday Specials

It’s the Monday after Thanksgiving and everyone is back to work.  Perhaps it’s more appropriate to say that everyone is back at the office…because apparently not much work gets done on Cyber Monday.  Workers take advantage of the high speed Internet access to capture some great deals offered by their favorite online retailers.

We hope you have high speed Internet, because we’re about to unveil two great deals…first come, first served.

The first great deal is on an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Chronograph – it’s like new with box and papers.

The retail price is $6100, but we’re offering it for an unbelievable $3390 – that’s 44% off the original price!  Other online retailers are offering it for $4275-$4995.  CLICK HERE to check out the product detail page for this great Omega.

We’re not going to stop there.  We’re going to offer special Cyber Monday pricing on a great Rolex Submariner Date – it doesn’t get any more classic than this watch!  This watch is in like new condition with box and papers.  The retail price is $6000+ (the new models are over $7000!) and we’re offering it today for an amazing $4540 – almost 25% off retail price!  You can’t go wrong with this watch.  CLICK HERE to check out the product detail page.

Both watches are 100% authentic and come with a one year warranty!

Get that special someone a gift that they’ll never forget!  Or, treat yourself…we won’t tell anyone.

Is She Marrying a Nigerian Prince?

If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.

Every once in a while the eRelyx staff trolls through Craigslist to see what watches are for sale.  The process helps us understand things like supply, demand, and pricing.  The other day we came across a deal that seemed too good to be true.  Check out the listing:

An IWC Big Pilot for $4200?!?!  When I saw that, I looked at one of my marketing associates and said, “If this watch is real, I’ll drive to ‘Springfield’ to pick it up tonight.”

Of course I was skeptical, so I emailed the seller and asked the following questions:

1. Is the watch 100% authentic – all parts, band, etc.?

2. How did you acquire it?

3. Do you know where it was originally purchased?

4. Would you be willing to meet at an authorized dealer to conduct the transaction?

Here is her response:

It’s still for sale but before i start answering your questions, i`ll have to let you know that i left town a few days ago because i have to help my daughter organize her wedding, and i may stay here a while, but this is no problem because i`ll sell it through Co-Op services. I guess you used Co-Op before, if you didn`t let me know because i met people that never used it and i will explain how it works in detail. I want to sell it now because i need the money for my daughters wedding so if you are interested in buying it now let me know. Also let me know if you have other questions. Thank you

The old sob story!!  I love it.  Because the best way to raise money for your daughter’s wedding is to drop a brand new $10K+ watch off at Co-Op Services and hope they sell it.

I played along, responded to her email with a hearty, “Congratulations!” and reiterated my questions.  Here is her response:

The watch is 100% authentic, all the parts everything is 100% authentic. It is in new condition because it was never worn. I purchased it from eBay new.

I’m glad you are still interested. No problem, I’ll explain how CoOp works, their website is ( They are a chain of ebay drop off stores and they offer their services for craigslist users too. I left the item in their possession when I left and intended to sell it when I got back but the wedding costs more than we expected and i need to sell it now to help my daughter get married. They will handle the shipping and the payment. If you want to purchase this, you must register on their website, they send you an invoice with the transaction details and payment instructions and you send the payment to one of their agents. They receive the payment and start the shipping process. You receive the item and you have 10 days to inspect it and see if it’s exactly as described. If you decide to keep it, you let them know and they will transfer the payment to me, if you decide to return it, they will give you a full refund back and return the item on my cost. So you can be sure the item is exactly as described because i wouldn’t sell something that i know it will be returned and loose extra money. The shipping cost is already included in the price listed on craigslist so you don’t have to worry about that. The process is very simple, it probably looks a little complicated from what i explained but it’s not and for a better understanding of how their service works you can check out their “Selling on eBay and Craigslist” page. I would advise you to read the Selling on eBay and Craigslist page before you register so you can be sure you understand how the process works. Let me know if you are still interested and if you have questions please ask, no problem. Also, if you don’t want to register on their website for any reason, you can send me your full name and shipping address and i will forward it to them, but it’s better if you register yourself.

Thank you

PS: I am sorry for the long email but i couldn’t explain the process in less words.

The Cooperative Yardsales site actually looks legitimate.  See a screenshot below:

I was STILL very skeptical, so I did little digging on Cooperative Yardsales.  50% of the reviews are positive and 50% of the reviews are negative, indicating that it’s a scam.  At this point, I’m not really sure what to believe.  It could certainly be a legitimate service.  BUT, I know that at $4200 IWC Big Pilot is too good to be true.  So I did the following: I copied and pasted an excerpt from the seller’s email and Googled it.  The excerpt was, “I left the item in their possession when I left and intended to sell it when I got back but the wedding costs more than we expected and i need to sell it now”

BOOM!  Multiple hits with the same text.  And people sharing war stories about the SCAM.

This is exactly why a service like eRelyx is needed.  Unfortunately there are a number of scammers out there trying to take advantage of unsuspecting individuals.  Here are a few things that should tip you off on scams (and you could probably add a dozen more to the list):

1. The price is too good to be true.

2. The seller makes an excuse or gives you a sob story.

3. You need to jump through hoops to complete the purchase.

4. The emails seemed canned / scripted / generic.

I think the moral of the story is that if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.  And just to save you some time, this Rolex Milgauss is almost certainly a scam ;)

Finally, does anyone else feel bad for this woman’s daughter?  She may not get the wedding of her dreams.  Although hopefully she is able to live a wonderful, happy life with her Nigerian Prince husband.

Time Heals All Wounds (Pun Intended)

If you asked me in the mid-1980s if I had any enemies I probably would have said, “No. Not that I know of. Can I get back to playing Nintendo?”  But that doesn’t mean that there weren’t a few people that I didn’t like.  I’m looking at you Johnny Lawrence and Ivan Drago.

As many of you know, Johnny Lawrence was the high school bully that tormented my hero, YMCA-trained karate kid, Daniel Larusso.  Ivan Drago was the communist boxer who tormented America’s hero, Rocky Balboa.

Well, a lot of time has passed.  My feelings towards Johnny Lawrence and Ivan Drago have improved a bit.  As far as I can tell, they haven’t bothered Daniel Larusso or Rocky Balboa recently.  Plus, it turns out that Ivan Drago is a big watch lover.  A few months ago I spotted him wearing a stainless steel Rolex Daytona.  Check it out.

And just today I noticed that he wore a nice luxury watch to the Premier of Faster in Los Angeles, CA.  So Ivan Drago, we’re cool now.  (Can anyone identify what watch he is wearing?)

I’ve still got my eyes on you, Johnny Lawrence.  It’s not that I dislike you.  It’s just that I still feel a bit uneasy around you.  Perhaps if you wear a nice watch I’ll be able to forgive you for bullying Daniel.

The “Investment Gift”: When a ‘Shake Weight’ just won’t cut it.

I am addicted to fashion magazines. Compulsively, obsessively addicted to fashion magazines. And there is no issue I prefer to the December holiday issue inevitably put out by every major woman’s mag in the market. There is nothing that plays to my imagination more than pages upon pages of glitter, sequins, color, glamour and the sheer excess that are neatly packaged for my consumption across elaborate holiday features and fashion spreads. There is no better way to get me excited about my holiday shopping.

There is something about a magazine’s holiday issue that feels so luxe, so…indulgent. This year in particular, I’ve noticed a trend in editorial promoting what i like to call the “investment gift.” The gift that will forever stay a classic, that will last through years of wear and trends, that will appreciate in value, and is something he/she will always remember as being that little bit extra special.

The “investment” gift of 2010? A watch. As predicted, (see our blog on the wristwatch’s comeback), wristwatches are a hot commodity again and this holiday’s go-to for those looking to give a gift that will stand the test of time (pun intended).

Highlighted in the December issue of People StyleWatch are their picks for the 10 Best Watches! – The spread focuses namely on trendy watches from some more mainstream fashion brands and keeps with the magazine’s overall premise of highlighting trends for fashionistas in every price range. What stood out in this article was the inclusion of a Cartier Tank Watch (retails new for around $4000) among the likes of lesser priced fashion watches from Seiko, Timex, Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs. The Cartier stands out as an “investment gift”, a truly timeless and iconic piece of jewelry that will be forever fashionable. Worn by everyone from Jackie O to Princess Di to Angelina Jolie, this watch is a classic statement of chic.

We also noticed watches were highlighted in the December issue of ELLE’s Gift Guide. The watches appear on the page noted “to keep forever.” The assortment of six varied styles includes brands like Cartier, Audemars Piguet and Chopard- ranging in price from $725-$5000. But if you account for the luxury watch as a gift to “keep forever,” as Elle suggests, the cost is marginal- thats the nature of an “investment gift”- quality over quantity.

If you agree with Elle & People StyleWatch then this is the year to get your loved one the gift that keeps on giving- and if you want the best deal on that investment, then eRelyx should be your go-to for holiday shopping. Click on the pictures below to be taken to just a few of the incredible deals on “investment gift”-worthy watches in our inventory!

Nelly Returns. In Serious Style.

This Tuesday, November 16, Hip-Hop artist/rapper Nelly dropped his 6th studio album, 5.0. His lead single “Just a Dream” has been paving the way for a massive success, debuting this past August at number 1 on the Billboard and iTunes charts. The album release party, held Tuesday night at Playhouse Hollywood in LA, featured performances from music heavy hitters, Jermaine Dupri, Chris Brown and, of course, Nelly himself. Celebs like Rob Kardashian, Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad‘s McLovin) and up-and-comer Shalone, came out to fete Nelly’s latest venture.

Although he never fully left the hip-hop scene, Nelly’s 5.0 is expected to be his big “comeback album,” with anticipated sales to rival 2000′s Country Grammar. We, at eRelyx, are especially happy to have Nelly back in the limelight. We have profiled several hip-hop artists past (see our blogs on Jay-Z, 50 cent’s Hublot and the BET awards) for their impeccable taste in high-end, luxury and often customized watches. And of course, there’s the bling. Can’t forget the bling. Nelly was no exception to the rule at Tuesday’s event, donning a massive timepiece dripping in diamonds.

Party-goer Chris Brown, who is featured with Plies on the track “Long Gone,” opted out of bling, in favor of a unique neon choice. Meanwhile, Rob Kardashian traded out his more classic wristwear for a shocking white option. Hmmm…could “blindingly bright” be the new “ice” on the music circuit?

Fans of Nelly’s blinged-out “Masterpiece” should check out this Rolex Platinum and Diamond beauty featured on the eRelyx site. We are confidant the wearer of this gem would fit right in rubbing elbows with the likes of Nelly, Hova or Weezy.

For those who prefer the understated cool we saw on the likes of Rob and Chris-  this white ceramic Chanel J12 fits right in.

The iPod Watch is Here?

It took Apple long enough, but they are finally getting on the wristwatch bandwagon (maybe they read our post about the comeback of the watch?) and I have to say, I’m underwhelmed.

Personally, Im a huge Apple fan (I mean what tech-savvy twenty-something isnt?) and an even bigger music geek. Top that off with a sick obsession over fashion and wristwatches and you’d think that the ipod+watch scenario would be right up my ally.

Au contraire, Pierre.

I guess I’d have to say I’m somewhat of a classicist when it comes to what I wear. As much as I love my ipod I dont think I’d be caught wearing it around my neck as some kind of pendant necklace anytime soon. That goes for my wrists too- which is the idea behind Griffin Technology’s new “slap case,” created especially for the 6th generation iPod nano.

I understand where they are coming from- its definitely a clever way to multipurpose your iPod- but I’d like my iPod to be, well, my iPod and my watch to be, well, my watch (…even if it takes me about three seconds to register what time I’m reading…I blame this on an early 90s childhood where you were only as cool as your Baby G). I consider watches as I do any other major accessory, from a purse to a pair of shoes- it should be at once both practical, substantial, and a reflection of personal style. Even though I tend to be a purist when it comes to accessorizing (Jen Aniston is a perfect example of how simple diamond studs and a gold Rolex translate seamlessly from a day at the park to the red carpet), I do support shaking things up and trying out different watch trends, but I have to draw the line somewhere. So, unless im running at the gym, I don’t think I’ll start strapping electronic devices to my  appendages any time soon.

Regardless of my opinion- ill always give credit where credit is due. And the folks at Griffin certainly had a great idea with the “slap” iPod watch- So if you are looking for a stocking stuffer, gag gift or something fun for your secret santa, for $25, I say definitely check it out, let us know what you think.

But, if you’re like me, and prefer something a little more lasting, and slightly more elegant, I think I’d rather save those $25 and put it towards my eventual purchase of that Cartier Tank. It cant play my new Taylor Swift album, but its as indisputably lovely now as it was in 1960,  and theres no arguing with that kind of timelessness.

Researching Watches Leads To Interesting Discoveries

As our loyal readers know, the eRelyx blog focuses on luxury watches.  Sometimes our research uncovers a movie star wearing a great Audemars Piguet or Panerai watch.  Sometimes it uncovers a hot Hollywood fashion trend like thick-rimmed “nerd” glasses.  And other times it uncovers that Alex Rodriguez and Drew Carey had a son together. Wait.  What?  That’s impossible, right?  Probably, but take a look at the evidence.

That’s Glee star Mark Salling.  We uncovered his photo while researching two of Hollywood’s hottest trends – Audemars Piguet watches and nerd glasses.  We couldn’t help but think that he looks like a cross between Alex Rodriguez and Drew Carey.

Does anyone else see it?!?!

Mario Lopez Backs Panerai

Is Mario Lopez taking over for Ryan Seacrest as the hardest working person in Hollywood?  He’s everywhere – hosting America’s Best Dance Crew, hosting Extra, hosting a launch party for a men’s sunless self-tanner (he must get ribbed for that one, right?), starring in his own reality show, etc.  He probably goes to the gym from time to time too…just guessing.

Check him out interviewing Selena Gomez for a segment on Extra.  Click on the thumbnails for larger images.

Do you see what I see?  Dimples.  Then what?  Guns.  Okay, but then what?  PANERAI!!!

Panerai and Audemars Piguet are definitely the hottest watches with celebrities these days.

Unless you already have them, getting his dimples would be tough and painful.  And getting his guns would take a LONG time (not to mention a strict diet and good genetics).  Getting his Panerai is relatively easy and painless.  eRelyx has plenty of similar models for sale.  Check them out – click here to see our Panerai watches.

The Madoff Watch Auction

It seems money (or in this case- other people’s money) may not be able to buy you class, but it can buy you an extraordinary wardrobe of watches.

Round II of Bernard Madoff’s personal possessions are being auctioned off in New York City this weekend. The first auction of Madoff possessions in November 2009 raised nearly $1 million dollars to go to reimbursing the victims of the largest Ponzi scheme in history.

This weekend’s auction is expected to bring in another $2 million an will feature everything from the glamorous (wife Ruth’s emerald-cut 10.5 carat diamond engagement ring is a highlight), to the mundane (kitchen utensils, Ruth’s pantyhose, and even a carbon monoxide detector from the Upper East Side apartment that once belonged to the Madoff family, are all up for sale).

Naturally, we think the real draw of the auctions is the extensive, and dare we say impressive, collection of watches Madoff owned. The array  of some 40-odd watches, valued over half a million, spans the gamut of luxury watch designers- there are several IWC, Hublot, Audemars Piguet, Piaget, Cartier, Jaeger LeCoultre, and a notable number of Patek Philippe. Also making appearances are a Franck Muller, Bulgari, Blancpain, IWC, Ulysee and Swatch (…hmmm, one of these things is not like the other).

Bernie’s watch of choice? Well, thats easy, a Rolex of course (ironic considering the brand lost nearly $1million investing with Madoff). There are a total of nearly 20 Rolexes in the collection, many of them vintage c. 1940s. While the majority of the collection sold in 2009, several of the more expensive Pateks and Rolex will be up for bid this weekend, including a rare vintage Rolex Oyster Chronograph, expected to bring in 25-30K.

Also on the block will be a diamond & platinum Tiffany & Co. dress watch, as well as a diamond & onyx studded Art Deco style Cartier from the Ruth Madoff collection. Bidding on each begins at $1,000, a mere fraction of retail value.

Well Mr. Madoff, at least you don’t really need to know what time it is when you’re spending the next 150 years behind bars.
