Justin Bieber Rocks Nerd Specs

As our loyal readers know, there’s a huge fashion battle going on in Hollywood between Audemars Piguet watches and nerd glasses.  As of right now, the battle is pretty even. However, there’s one more vote for nerd glasses, and this one may sway the younger crowd. Fortunately, the younger crowd probably doesn’t have the means to afford Audemars Piguet watches.  The battle rages on!!!

The latest supporter of big, thick, black-rimmed glasses is Justin Bieber.  Check out the young crooner promoting his new book in LA.  Click on the thumbnails for larger images (although the glasses are pretty large already).

A couple of questions:

1. Do those come in kids’ sizes?

LeBron Loses. At Least His Watch Looks Good.

The 2010-11 NBA season tipped off last night with the Boston Celtics hosting the new look Miami Heat.  Many NBA fans expect the superstar trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh to lead the Heat to a record number of wins this season.  Some are even expecting the Heat to go 82-0.  Whoops.  That’s not going to happen.  The Celtics handled the Heat 88-80, reminding people that the NBA’s most storied franchise (sorry LA) is still the team to beat in the east.

LeBron didn’t seem to upset about it.  It’s only one game.  AND, he was wearing an amazing red Audemars Piguet watch in the post-game press conference.  Click on the thumbnails for larger images.

If you can’t win, at least look good losing, right?  Well done LeBron.  Heat fans may be upset, but luxury watch enthusiasts are excited.  (Just don’t hold an hour-long press conference telling us that you’re taking your wrists to Rolex).

Premiere Event: The eRelyx Launch Party

On Friday night eRelyx and Shreve Crump & Low, America’s oldest jeweler, hosted the eRelyx launch event in celebration of www.erelyx.com, which will go live on Friday, November 5th!

It was a fantastic evening with an incredible turnout! About 100-150 guests came out to the Shreve, Crump & Low storefront on Boylston street in the heart of Back Bay to honor eRelyx and enjoy the sparkling ambiance created by the dozens of display cases showing off the store’s high-end selection of jewels and luxury brand watches.

Party-goers were treated to delicious hors d’oeuvres from Max’s Ultimate, a full service catering company in the Boston area (www.maxultimatefood.com), and a Johnnie Walker sponsored whiskey bar, generously donated by the folks at Diageo, which served up delicious cocktails professionally mixed by a “Master of Whiskey.”

Randy Couture Branches Out with Curtis & Co.

(First things first: EA = Electronic Arts; MMA = Mixed Martial Arts; UFC = Ultimate Fighting Championship)

EA Sports introduced its latest sports video game, EA Sports MMA, at a launch party earlier this week in Las Vegas.  There’s an interesting story behind this game – I’m not going to claim to know all of the details, but it goes something like this:

A few years ago UFC, the largest and best known MMA promotion, approached EA Sports, the largest and best known sports video game developer, about collaborating to create the first mainstream MMA video game.  At that point in time, EA Sports apparently told UFC that MMA didn’t meet their guidelines (I’m being vague here – I think that EA told UFC that MMA was too violent, not a sport, or not mainstream).  Well, THQ (another video game developer) jumped at the chance and created a UFC video game – which did very well with consumers. So, THQ and the president of UFC, Dana White, got the last laugh.

Anyways… All of our faithful blog readers know that MMA superstars (including UFC fighters) love big, expensive watches – we’ve blogged about it many times.  So it was no surprise to see the MMA fighters wearing luxury watches at the EA Sports MMA launch party the other night.  Check out MMA/UFC legend Randy “The Natural” Couture wearing what looks like a huge Curtis & Co watch (similar in style to Jacob & Co.).

Another MMA star, Robbi Lawler, was seen wearing a very similar watch.  Looks like the watch manufacturers understand the marketing power of MMA.

Rob Kardashian Rocks a Rose Gold Watch*

Kim Kardashian celebrated the big 3-0 this weekend in Vegas. The party, hosted at Tao nightclub in Las Vegas. Naturally, the entire Kardashian clan was in tow, dressed to the nines. However on this night out, our eyes weren’t on the Kardashian ladies, but on little brother Rob- who appeared to be sporting a U-boat Classico 45 mm in rose gold:

This particular design is noted by its canteen style crown and retails for about 20-30K.  *However as one of our eRelyx blog-readers pointed out, the crown on U-boats is usually on the opposite side. So it looks like Rob’s watch might actually be a rose gold TW-Steel which retails for just under $1,000

Rose gold is a growing trend in the jewelry market this fall and we’ve seen it cropping up all over the place on the wrists of celebrities and fashionistas.The color is more flattering than standard gold or silver on most skin types- we love how it pops on Rob. A rose gold watch is extremely versatile- it looks great dressed up or down and mixed in with silver or gold. Its a look we love for fall- and Rob wears it especially well. Sneak Peak: Behind the Scenes at the eRelyx Photo-shoot

Expensive watches, pretty models and puppies. What could be better?

This Saturday eRelyx shot its very first ad campaign at various locations through out Boston. Our first destination? The North End Park overlooking the Navy Yard and Charlestown, where we met the new star of eRelyx.com- Dakota. This charming 3-month-old beagle was loving the camera and there was no way he was letting an expensive watch (or our gorgeous- human- model, Mal) outshine him!

Despite Dakota’s penchant for chasing after leaves and the challenges posed by a very windy Boston shoreline, our shoot was a great success. Keep an eye out for the campaign when it runs after the site launches.

In the meantime, wet your appetite with some adorable behind-the-scenes footage of what happened when eRelyx brought all of “man’s best friends” together for one awesome photo shoot.

Mike Tyson Sports a Cartier Pasha

Mike Tyson was one of the biggest sports stars of the 20th century.  At the height of his boxing career he was the baddest and most feared man on the planet.  Don’t believe me? Just watch a few reruns of his old fights and look into the eyes of his opponents – they knew they didn’t stand a chance and it showed.  Mike Tyson was a star and had millions of fans across the globe.

In the early 90s, Tyson lost his way.  He made terrible decisions and it seemed as if his life was spiraling out of control.  Scratch that – his life was spiraling out of control.

However, Tyson seems to be getting things back in order.  While on The View in May, he had the following to say about his life: “I’m totally destitute and broke. But I have an awesome life, I have an awesome wife who cares about me. I’m totally broke. I had a lot of fun. It (going broke) just happened. I’m very grateful. I don’t deserve to have the wife that I have; I don’t deserve the kids that I have, but I do, and I’m very grateful.”

Tyson seems genuinely excited about his life and family.  And it seems like his financial situation has improved since May.  Why do I say that?  Because he was spotted wearing a Cartier Pasha watch at a recent autograph signing in Vegas.  That particular watch is several thousands of dollars – not something broke and destitute people wear.  Who knows – maybe he signed a huge contract to star in The Hangover 2.

A Gucci Watch Goes With Everything

If you’re a loyal reader of our blog, you know that we spend quite a bit of time blogging about Holly Madison.  No matter what the occasion, Holly always rocks her favorite stainless steel Gucci watch.  We’ve never seen a celebrity remain so loyal to one particular accessory.  The analogy is not perfect, but can you image a wealthy female celebrity always wearing the same pair of black Christian Louboutin pumps?  There’s no way.  The only possible explanation is that her Gucci watch has sentimental value.  My guess – it’s a gift from Hef.

Holly is wearing a Dirndl.  A dirndl is a type of traditional dress worn in southern Germany, Liechtenstein, Austria, Switzerland and Italian South Tirol, based on the historical costume of Alpine peasants.  It consists of a bodice, blouse, full skirt and apron (thanks Wikipedia). Apparently it also consists of a Gucci watch.  Maybe I should update the Wikipedia entry.

Anyway, if anyone knows the story behind Holly’s Gucci watch, let us know.  We want to get to the bottom of this.  Holly – email us!

Hayden Panettiere Rocks a Rolex Daytona

eRelyx is gearing up for its first official photo shoot. We have a really cool concept. We were trying to keep it a secret, but it seems like someone let the cat (err, dog) out of the bag.

Here’s the idea: cram men’s favorite things into one photo. The top three on the list were:

1. A beautiful woman.

2. A puppy.

3. A hot watch.

These photos have all of those things covered.  Woman = Hayden Panettiere.  Puppy = um, Puppy.  Hot watch = gold Rolex Daytona.  Dear Hayden Panettiere – your lawyers will be hearing from our lawyers.  Okay, not really.  But we had the idea first.  I have documentation.

Hopefully the photoshoot will go off without a hitch…although I’m not sure that the dog will cooperate.  It could be comical.
