Identify That Watch: Eva Longoria Parker

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Eva Longoria Parker (Desperate Housewives) and her husband Tony Parker (NBA: San Antonio Spurs) attended the Par Couer Gala in Paris, France the other day.  The annual event is a fundraiser for MAKE-A-WISH France and Eva’s Heroes.  Proceeds from this year’s event will also benefit Toute a L’ecoles – a non-profit organization that operates to create schools and educational programs for young girls in developing countries.

It’s great to see celebrities using their fame to promote worthy causes.  It’s an added bonus to see them wearing hot watches while promoting worthy causes.  That’s the case here with Eva Longoria Parker.  Check out her watch!  Looks great, but it’s hard to figure out exactly what brand/model it is.  So, identify that watch!

Pre-owned. It Just Makes Sense

Monday, September 20th, 2010

I’ll be honest.  Every watch that I’ve purchased to date has been brand new.  I guess I always thought that buying new was the way to go.

Well, I was wrong.  A few weeks ago I sent my scratched-up 4 year old Rolex Submariner back to Rolex to be serviced.  As part of the service the watch was polished.  I got it back today and it looks BRAND NEW.  See for yourself – the pictures don’t do it justice.

So why buy pre-owned?

1.  It looks new.

2. It costs thousands less.  A brand new Rolex Submariner is just over seven grand.  A pre-owned model will cost you about five grand – almost 30% less!

Buy pre-owned.  It just makes sense.  Put it this way – would you rather have one new Rolex Submariner or a pre-owned Rolex Submariner AND a pre-owned Omega Speedmaster?  I know my answer.

Update: Baseball Cards For Watches

Monday, September 20th, 2010

About a month ago I blogged about trading my childhood hobby (baseball cards) for my current hobby (watches) – read about it here.

The goal was to sell several cards and then buy the best possible watch with the proceeds. Well, we are underway.  I have sold the following two cards.

Wayne Gretzky Topps Rookie card for $300 ($265 after fees):

Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) 2nd year card for $110 ($100 after fees):

So at this point I’ve got $365.  If the process ended today, I would probably go for a Suunto Core Aluminum.

I’m going to keep going though.  Maybe I’ll be able to land an IWC Portuguese…although it’s going to take many more cards!

Stay tuned for more updates!

Official Timekeepers? I Doubt It.

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Follow my train of thought…

Tag Heuer recently hosted an event in London to celebrate its 150th anniversary.  To commemorate the anniversary, Tag Heuer and Tesla teamed up to create the Tag Heuer Tesla Roadster – a one of a kind collector’s car.  Beautiful car.  (BTW…I love that the guy in the passenger seat is tugging at his collar…no doubt he’s sweating as he thinks to himself, “Is this old guy really going to drive?”)

That got me thinking – luxury watches and luxury cars go hand in hand.  You’ve got Tag Heuer and Tesla…Breitling and Bentley…Panerai and Ferrari…etc.

My next thought was that luxury watches also have ties to auto racing.  You’ve got the Tag Heuer Monaco and the Rolex Daytona.

Which led me to the following thought – luxury watch brands often like to be the official timekeepers at big-time sporting events.  For example, Omega is the official timekeeper of the Olympics…Hublot was the official timekeeper of the most recent World Cup…etc.

So that got me thinking – were all of the World Cup referees wearing Hublot watches?  I highly doubt it.  They were probably wearing something digital – maybe a Timex or Adidas watch.  Hublot doesn’t make digital watches, do they?  So aren’t Timex/Adidas the official time keepers?

Who knows – maybe the Congolese ref blew the call against the US because he was too busy staring at his $20K Hublot Big Bang.  Now that makes sense.

More Stars in Nerd Glasses

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Yesterday I wrote a blog on two hot celebrity fashion trends – Audemars Piguet watches and old-school black, thick-rimmed nerd glasses.

Today, I found two more pics of celebs wearing nerd glasses.  It looks like nerd glasses are a hotter trend than Audemars Piguet watches.  Or maybe it’s just winning the trend battle because glasses are a lot more affordable than Audemars Piguet watches.

The first photo is of (new) 90210 star Shenae Grimes.  The second is of uber-couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.  But you knew that.

I don’t wear glasses, but I might have to start…nerd me up!

Audemars Piguet or Nerd Glasses?

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Over here at eRelyx, we like to think that we’re in touch with most of the new fashion trends. Two trends that seem to be popping up in the celebrity community are Audemars Piguet watches and old-school nerd glasses.

Which trend do you think is cooler?  Audemars Piguet watches or nerd glasses?

Looks like TI has both covered.  Well played, TI.

Identify That Watch: Naomi Campbell

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

As most of you know, it’s Fashion Week in NYC…okay, maybe most of you don’t know. Unless you’re really into fashion, it’s probably not that big of a deal. (I’m sure some of you are going to get mad at me for saying that).

Anyways, when you think of Fashion Week you think of supermodels.  And when you think of supermodels, you think of Gisele.  And then maybe one or two more.  And then Naomi Campbell.  She’s a legend.  And she still looks absolutely amazing for someone who you can legitimately call a legend.  She and Demi Moore must be drinking from the same fountain of youth (and no, I don’t mean Ashton Kutcher).

Given that it’s Fashion Week, Naomi Campbell has been out on the town quite a bit. Recently, she showed up to an Essence magazine event with a killer watch.  Only problem is, we can’t identify it.  She’s been known to sport a Jacon & Co. watch, so that could be it.  Also, the distinct shoulders remind me of a Chronoswiss watch.  Regardless, it’s tough to identify.  So, Identify that watch!

Rafael Nadal Still Rocking a $500K Richard Mille Watch

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Rafael Nadal is currently competing in the Men’s Final of the US Open…wearing a $500K watch.  He wore the same watch at the French Open earlier this year.

I’m sure that Richard Mille is getting plenty of press for the creative advertising strategy. Who wears a $500K watch to play tennis?  No one…except the best player in the world.  I’m sure that it’s creating plenty of buzz.  Hey – I’m blogging about it…again.  Well done Richard Mille.  (Let’s just hope he doesn’t fall on his right wrist).

Confirmation of JT’s Audemars Piguet

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Last night I posted a blog about the Audemars Piguet watch that Justin Timberlake was wearing at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.  Unfortunately I only had a few rough screen captures to prove it.

Well, now I’ve got a great photo of the watch from the white carpet (MTV had to be different). It looks like Timberlake is wearing a Royal Oak Offshore, but it’s tough to tell exactly which version it may be.  It could be the Gstaad Classic edition, but it looks like the stitching on Timberlake’s watch is white, not red.  What do you think?

Justin Timberlake Rocks an Audemars Piguet

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

Audemars Piguet has done it again.  Does any watch company understand celebrity marketing better than the AP management team?  Rolex?  Maybe, but Audemars Piguet is really showing them a thing or two at the moment.

Who’s wearing AP?  LeBron JamesLL Cool JJay Z…multiple Entourage cast members…to name a few.

And who’s next?  None other than Justin Timberlake at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.

I’ll tell you this – if you want the hot new “it” brand that everyone is wearing, pick up an Audemars Piguet.
