One More Vote For Nerd Glasses

Justin Timberlake showed up to the NYC premier of The Social Network rocking a pair of nerd glasses.  As you know, last week we blogged about the “nerd glasses” trend that’s sweeping through Hollywood.  Check out the original post complete with some great pictures – click here.

In the previous post, we asked – “Which trend do you think is cooler?  Audemars Piguet watches or nerd glasses?”

Well, JT has done nothing to help settle the debate.  Last week he was wearing an Audemars Piguet watch.

This week he’s wearing nerd glasses.  I guess the debate will rage on.  Although one thing is clear – nerd glasses and Audemars Piguet watches are all the rage in Hollywood.

Also, is there anyone out there that can send me a pair of nerd glasses (with clear, prescription-free lenses – I don’t want to get dizzy wearing them).  I’ll send you a t-shirt in exchange.  Let me know! (And by the way – I just need one pair).

Watch of the Moment: IWC Big Pilot

There is a lot of buzz around the eRelyx HQ about the IWC Big Pilot.  First it shows up on Nate Archibald’s (Chace Crawford) wrist on Gossip Girl.  Now I’ve got a customer who is desperately trying to find a pre-owned model to add to his collection.  (The customer assures me that he’s not trying to become Chace Crawford…I say, why not?)

The IWC Big Pilot is definitely a statement watch.  Not only is it expensive at $13,500, but it’s huge as well.  It’s 47mm and has a large, easily identifiable crown.  There’s no way the watch can go unnoticed on your wrist – especially since it’s near impossible to fit underneath a shirt cuff.

Want to make a statement of your own?  Expect to pay ~$8,500 for a pre-owned model and just over $10K for a new model (bring your negotiating skills though!)

The eRelyx Founder Walks Into a Bar…

After work last Friday night I stopped by PF Chang’s to pick up takeout for dinner.  I sat at the bar, had a drink, and played with my iPhone while I waited for the food.  As I was waiting, a lovely woman tapped me on the shoulder (trust me, I was just as surprised as you are).

Woman: “Excuse me.  I don’t mean to be nosey, but what app is that?”

Me: “Facebook.”  (Who doesn’t know what facebook is?)

Woman:  ”Oh – I meant eRelyx.”  (She pronounced it correctly!!)

Me: “Right.  Who doesn’t know facebook?  eRelyx is my new business.  It’s an online marketplace for authenticated pre-owned luxury watches.  It’s a safe, trustworthy place to buy and sell luxury watches.  eBay has had a lot of issues with counterfeit products and jewelry stores typically don’t offer sellers fair prices for their watches.”

Woman: “I wish I met you last week.  I just sold my Rolex to a jewelry store.”

Me: “Did you feel good about the experience?”

Woman: “No.  I felt like I was *****” (We have thousands of kids reading this blog – you can fill in the blank with your own naughty word)

Me: “Sorry to hear it.  That’s exactly why I started the business.”

Woman: “Good luck.  I think it’s a great idea.”

Buying or selling a luxury watch is an emotional experience.  My team and I all love watches – we understand that.  You should feel good about the experience – we want to make sure that happens.

Entourage Star Rocks a Rolex

Dania Ramirez made a splash on Entourage this season as Turtle’s new love interest, Alex. Last weekend Dania made a splash as the celebrity host of a pool party at Wet Republic in Las Vegas.  (That splash pun was painful for me too)

If you’re one of our loyal blog readers, then you know that Entourage is one long watch commercial.  Audemars Piguet and Panerai watches are everywhere.  However, Dania Ramirez most frequently rocks bare wrists on the show.  That’s not the case in real life. Check her out at the Wet Republic photo shoot from last weekend.  She’s sporting a Rolex Datejust watch with a pink dial.  I thought Cartier was pulling away as the “it” luxury watch brand with female celebrities.  Looks like Rolex has something to say about that.  Click on thumbnails for larger images.

Brad Pitt Prefers Panerai

Actor.  Humanitarian. Heartthrob.  Husband.  Father.  (Was that corny, or what!?!)

Brad Pitt spent part of his weekend shopping at American Girl with his daughter Zahara.  If shopping at a doll store doesn’t confirm that he’s a devoted Dad, I don’t know what does. Check out all of the pics here.

It’s probably hard for a guy to look cool in a doll store, but Brad Pitt handled that task with ease.  Cool jeans?  Check.  Cool shades?  Check?  Cool hat? I guess – Tony Romo is wearing a newsboy hat these days too.  Cool watch?  Check.  Brad Pitt is sporting a Panerai Radomir Black Seal.

Brad Pitt seems like a pretty cool guy.  Which makes me wonder – Brad, do you want to be the eRelyx spokesperson?  We’re still waiting to hear back from Jennifer Aniston and Eva Longoria.  Let us know.  Thanks.

Holly Madison Picture Tribute

I’ve never seen a celebrity who is more loyal to his/her watch than Holly Madison.  Although Holly has plenty of money to run out and buy a Chanel, Rolex, or Cartier watch, she stays true to her Gucci watch.  I respect that.  Here’s to you Holly Madison.

MUST READ – I Was Duped. Lesson Learned

About a month ago I blogged about selling baseball cards and using the proceeds to buy a watch. You can read the full blog here.

The first part of the process was getting the cards graded and authenticated by Professional Sports Authenticators (PSA).  I sent the cards into their office about a month ago.  Just yesterday I got a note back from PSA that detailed the condition/grade of each card.  The following graphic shows the results (1-10 scale with 10 being “perfect condition”).  The grades are in the 4th column from the left.

Know what was most shocking to me?  One of the cards was likely fake and two of the cards had been altered (trimmed or painted).

I had no clue – when I bought them I was told that they were real/original.  I bought these cards at card shows from people that I thought were respectable sellers.  And maybe they were – maybe they were duped when they bought the cards.  The point is that the cards that I now own are essentially worthless.  I would have saved a lot of money if I had the cards authenticated before I bought them.  Lesson learned.

Epic Watch Battle: Aniston vs. Longoria

The other day Eva Longoria Parker was the subject of “Identify That Watch” on the eRelyx blog (click here).  One of our loyal readers said that it was too difficult to see her watch in the pictures that we posted.  I told him that posting more pictures of her might take the fun out of the game – it would be too easy to identify her watch.  His response was that posting more pictures of Eva Longoria could never be seen as a bad thing.  Ummmm…great point.

So, I went in search of more pictures of Eva Longoria.  During that process I learned that she is a huge watch fan.  So…not to put any pressure on you, Jennifer Aniston, but if you don’t get back to us soon we may hire Eva Longoria as the eRelyx spokesperson.  The time to act is now.

What do you think – should we go with Jennifer or Eva?  (Click on the thumbnails for larger images)

So – who’s the better eRelyx spokesperson?

Chace Crawford Rocks an IWC Big Pilot

I haven’t gotten a call from his manager yet, but I think Chace Crawford wants to be the eRelyx spokesperson.  Now all of you know that our first choice is Jennifer Aniston – we’ve blogged about her more than a few times.  (Click here)

If we can’t agree to terms with Jennifer, then we might need to turn our attention to Chace. He’s young…he’s talented…he’s good looking…and he loves watches.  A couple of weeks ago he was spotted wearing a Panerai at the Teen Choice Awards (click here).  And just the other night he was wearing an IWC Big Pilot on Gossip Girl.  (Click on the thumbnails for larger images)

There has been a lot of talk about young folks not wearing watches these days.  Well when those young folks see Chace’s IWC, they’re going to beg and plead with their parents to buy them a $10K watch.  Hiring Chace is just a good economic decision for eRelyx.

Like I needed an excuse to buy another watch

Several years ago I bought my second automatic watch.  It was time for a watch winder – who wants to set the time on their watch every time they wear it?  Not me.  My fiancee was nice enough to give me a beautiful Orbita watch winder for Christmas.  My watches looked great in it:

Any watch enthusiast immediately sees a problem here.  It only has two watches.  So, not only did my fiancee give me a beautiful watch winder, she gave me an excuse to buy another watch.  Best. Gift. Ever.  Thanks!

Within a month of getting the winder I filled in the empty spot with a Panerai Luminor Marina. The Rolex Submariner and the Breitling Navitimer World were happy to have a new brother. Even though it meant that I would be spending less time with them.

And yes.  that blog was both nerdy and corny.  Can’t win ‘em all.
