Identify That Watch: Kellan Lutz

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Do women really need another reason to love Kellan Lutz?  First of all he’s a star in the hit movie series Twilight.  Second, he’s a Calvin Klein underwear model.  If that isn’t enough, he’s showing up to red carpet events in great luxury watches.  Check him out at the Twilight: Eclipse premiere in LA.  I’m going to do some research to figure out what brand that is – may be an IWC or Vacheron Constantin.  Can any of you identify that watch?

T.I. Shows Other Celebrities How It’s Done

Friday, August 20th, 2010

When celebrities are performing or hosting a show, they put a lot of thought into their outfits. Often times they’ll change their clothes multiple times during one event.  This is nothing new. Paula Abdul did it 20 years ago when I went to her concert (don’t tell anyone) and Katy Perry did it the other night when hosting the Teen Choice Awards.

But T.I. takes it to another level.  The other night at the AXE One Night Only Concert series in New York, not only did T.I. change his outfit, but he changed his watch as well.  Check out these shots from the event – he’s wearing two different Audemars Piguet watches.  That, my celebrity friends, is how it’s done.

As a side note, can we talk about Audemars Piguet?  Talk about a company that gets celebrity marketing.  No question about it – they’ve got some smart folks running the show over there.  I don’t know what sales look like, but Audemars Piguet is quickly becoming one of the most visible watch brands out there – and that usually translates into great sales.

We here at eRelyx hope that we get plenty of great Audemars Piguet watches on the site.

Identify That Watch: Alec Baldwin

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

From time to time the research team at eRelyx has difficulty identifying a celebrity’s watch. That’s the case with Alec Baldwin’s watch in the picture below (taken August 14 at the 6th Annual Authors Night at The East Hampton Library).  It looks like it might be a Glashutte Original Senator Chronograph XL, but it’s hard to say for sure.  Help us out!  What do you think?

And here’s a shot of the Glashutte Original Senator Chronograph XL.

It’s a Sad Day at eRelyx HQ

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

If you’re one of the 100,00+ loyal eRelyx blog readers you know that we love Jennifer Aniston.  Sure, she’s beautiful and talented, but she also wears great watches.  Her love of watches makes her the perfect eRelyx spokeswoman.  We are still hopeful that she will join us in the near future. (Jen, call us!)

However, Jen let us down last night and all of us over here at eRelyx headquarters are a bit blue today.  Jen showed up to last night’s Los Angeles premiere of “The Switch” sans watch.  Normally she’s wearing a great Rolex or Cartier watch.  Not last night.  Don’t get me wrong – she looked great and we’d still love to have her as the face (and wrist) of eRelyx, but it was strange seeing her arms so bare.  Hopefully I don’t have nightmares tonight.

Check her out.  And if you ever see her, ask her what time it is.  Hopefully that will make her think, “I should really wear a watch at all times.”  Thanks.

Watch Box Options

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Most watch enthusiasts keep the original box when buying a watch.  However, there are probably a few boxes that get lost or tossed.

When you’re buying a Rolex, Panerai, Breitling, Audemars Piguet watch, you want it to come in a nice box.  So, in the event that a seller on eRelyx doesn’t have a box, we’re going to provide one to the buyer (free of charge).

Here are the options.  We’re going to pick one and go with it, so we’d love your thoughts.

Left or right?  Please vote in the comments section or on the Facebook page.

Thanks.

Watch of the Moment: A. Lange & Sohne Grand Lange 1

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Sometimes you have to dream big.

When I dream big about watches, the A. Lange & Sohne Grand Lange 1 often plays a starring role.  I don’t know what it is about this watch, but I absolutely love it.  It’s a bit different, but still has that classic appearance.  At $30K it’s definitely pricey – you could buy 5-10 great watches for that amount of money.  But then again, if you’re buying a $30K, money probably isn’t a problem, right?

The history of the watch is pretty interesting.  Here’s an abbreviated version the entry from Wikipedia:

Lange was founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in the town of Glashütte, near Dresden, in the eastern state of Saxony. Under Ferdinand, and then, following his death, his sons Emil and Richard, Lange produced quality pocket watches, the company’s very best products generally being given the “1A” designation. Under subsequent generations of the Lange family the company continued to produce pocket watches and, like many German watch makers, produced special over-sized wrist watches for use by German airmen in World War II.

In 1948, the post-war Soviet administration expropriated the company’s property, and the Lange brand ceased to exist. However, in 1990, following the collapse of the East German government, the founder’s great-grandson, Walter Lange, together with watch industry executive Günter Blümlein, restored the company with the assistance of several Swiss watch manufacturers, including IWC. The refounded Lange, again operating from Glashütte, presented its first range of wrist watches in 1994. Today, A. Lange & Söhne (litt. A. Lange & Sons) wrist watches are sold globally and Lange, like IWC, is a member of the Richemont group.

Am I being Punk’d by Brooks Brothers?

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

%$&*#!

This is getting to be a bit ridiculous.  Another one of my Brooks Brothers shirts just ripped at the elbow.  Am I the only one that this happens to?  Is Brooks Brothers punking me?  If they are, I don’t appreciate it.  I’m an entrepreneur!

At this point, I literally have a pile of Brooks Brothers shirts with ripped elbows.  I’m not sure why I’m saving them.  I wish that short-sleeve button down shirts were cool.  Then I could just cut the sleeves off and go about my business.  Sometimes I wear my ripped shirts underneath sweaters in the winter – but I feel like a pauper when I change at the gym.

It’s time for me to give more of my business to some other brands.  Maybe Charles Tyrwhitt. Maybe Thomas Pink.  Or maybe I’ll try out Christopher Cuozzo – maybe I can send them all of my old Brooks Brothers shirts and they can use them as trim for the shirts that I order.  Now there’s an idea.

What do you think?  Please let me know if you’re experiencing the same thing with your Brooks Brothers shirts.  And forward this to friends so that they can weigh in.  Who knows, I might just have really sharp elbows.

Greatest Movie Villains from the Mid-80s

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

If you’re a male in your mid-30s, the answers to this question are going to be very obvious:

Who are the two greatest movie villains from the mid-1980s?

Well, I can’t just put the answer right here because that won’t give you time to think.  (Again, if you’re a male in your mid-30s, you shouldn’t have to think).

How can I distract you?  How about by showing a picture of one of the hottest, most-replayed scenes from an early 80s movie – Fast Times at Ridgemont High.  Here it is:

That, of course, it Phoebe Cates.

Now back to the original question: Who are the two greatest movie villains from the mid-1980s?

Easy.  Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) from The Karate Kid and Captain Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) from Rocky IV.  You don’t disagree, do you?

The reason I bring this up is because Dolph Lundgren is back in the movie spotlight promoting his latest film, The Expendables.  He was in Las Vegas last night for the premiere. And you know what, I can’t hate Drago anymore.  The cold war is over and Dolph Lundgren wears a stainless steel Rolex Daytona.  Check it out.

PS – Dear Johnny Lawrence – even though you were gracious in defeat, I still don’t feel all that great about you.  I mean, you’re 45 years old and it has been 26 years since the movie, and you’re still hanging out with the Cobra Kai.  Grow up.

Hilary, Mike, and Audemars: a Perfect Match

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie were photographed this past weekend at the Teen Choice Awards in Universal City, CA.  I love these pictures.  They capture so many things to love. Don’t believe me?  Well, let’s run down the list.

1. Beautiful girl.  Check.  Hilary Duff definitely qualifies.

2. Good looking guy.  Check.  Mike Comrie qualifies, doesn’t he?

3. Talented singer. Hilary Duff has had a few hits, right?

4. Talented actor.  Hilary was a ratings monster for Disney, right?  And she’s been in a few movies and Gossip Girl.  I think that counts.

5. Amazing Athlete. Check.  Mike Comrie is an NHL star.

6. Great fashion.  Check. I believe that’s a Harve Leger dress that Hilary is wearing.  All of the hot celebs have been wearing it over the past few years.  (How do I know this???)

7. Love.  I guess.  I just thought I had to throw that in there to be PC.

8. Amazing watch.  Check.  Comrie is sporting an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak (btw – how many stars are wearing this brand these days??)

What did I miss?  Newsboy cap?  Great heels?  Surfboards?  The list goes on and on.

Paris Hilton is Icy in August

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Paris Hilton was in attendance for the August 10th launch of “Tease” fragrance in Hollywood, CA.  Not surprisingly, Paris got plenty of attention.

A. She’s Paris Hilton, so she gets attention wherever she goes.

B. She was dressed up as Marilyn Monroe (and was quite convincing).

C. She was wearing millions of dollars worth of diamonds.  Most notably (in my eyes), Paris was wearing a $1MM+ watch made by Chopard – The Chopard Super Ice Cube.  If you take a look at the watch, you’ll understand how it got its name.  The luxury watch is encrusted with about 60 carats of diamonds.  Wow.  Take a look.

Check out that 4th photo again.  Do you notice what I notice?  Exactly.  That’s “Britain’s Got Talent” judge Amanda Holden wearing a stainless steel Rolex Daytona.  Oh, and she’s sneaking a peek at Paris’ tourist attractions.  Busted by eRelyx!
